I have an affinity for ocean breezes and the grittiness of the city, for the expansiveness of big landscapes and the hard edges of skyscrapers. There’s the excitement of New York, with its amalgam of cultures and appreciation of artists and the arts. There’s the power of the ocean while surfing, being enveloped by Tallahassee’s oak trees laden with Spanish moss, and breathing in the glory of Washington’s cherry blossoms in the spring.
In my paintings you can find a wide spectrum of color, bold and bright with a playful lightheartedness. Most prevalent is the influence of architecture, strong lines cutting through space and color, generating powerful three-dimensional effects.
What's created is a sense of pushing and pulling, density juxtaposed with open space. The taut pendulum between pandemonium and calm is a continual internal struggle visible in my work and my use of space, light, movement and structural forms. It synthesizes into energy and generates both excitement and composure.
